A big heart and a big smile. Most individuals would want their birthday to be about them. Not this lady you see in the picture. Dr Angela wanted to do something extraordinary and special for her birthday celebration. She had a fund raising event that included lots of nice food and music, in aid of three ground root organisations: Father to father, Manhood Academy and PH Harrow. So far she has raised £2.5k. Now that is being selfless!
I have had the honour of knowing Dr Angela for many years through work and she always amazes me. Her energy and drive are electrifying. She is passionate about what she does and she does it well. She does not talk the talk, but walks the walk.
So when she told me her plans to use her birthday celebration to raise money for a number of charitable organisations that work with ‘our’ people. I had to support the event. It was a great night. The music was nice, the vibe was nice and the attendees were friendly. I particularly liked the event because there were a lot of black professionals interacting with each other and having a good time to raise money.
The event dispelled the myth that ‘we’ do not support each other. I believe we as a people are at a state of collective consciousness that enables us to be proactive to do things for ourselves and support initiatives to improve the life chances of our young people.
We must keep supporting local initiatives and each other to build our communities.
