Today I attended the Accelerate to grand finale, I approached Richard Heaton Permanent Secretary and Digby Griffith Director of Commissioning, NOMS to have a conversation. I am practicing the principle of surrounding myself with people of influence and those who can bring out the best in me in the workplace.
I have learnt that no matter how smart you are, or talented, what skills you have, where you are born, or which family you came from. If you want to be successful in your career, you need to surround yourself with successful people.
I have never been shy and I am not afraid to approach individuals and initiate a conversation, especially with people of influence. Interacting with people of influence, whether it is a CEO, Minster of the church, principal, a parent, or a respected family member, their positive energy has affected me and will affect you too, because when you surround yourself with positive people, you become positive.
I am at stage in my academic and professional career where I am helping others because on my journey many of my associates have dropped out, diverted from their paths or just stopped. This saddens me because I know with the right support, encouragement and kick (metaphorically speaking), they would still be on their journey, feeling fulfilled and happy.
So I encourage you to surround yourself with people of influence, you will reap the benefit.
